Annotated Summary Draft 1

Senseware (2018). 5 Reasons you need visibility into your HVAC systems.

In this article, Senseware (2018) focuses on making improvements on the visibility to obtain maximum efficiency of HVAC systems using data analytics. Data analytics of HVAC systems helps in regulating the temperature of a building and lowering humidity, by ensuring that moisture in a building is kept under control which improves the comfort of indoor environment. Data analytics also provides visibility into HVAC system with sufficient accuracy that will help to take corrective action and reduce the energy demands and peak load distribution of HVAC systems which improves energy efficiency. Data analytics improves preventive maintenance by uncovering problems like additional HVAC runtime, poor control settings and programming errors, stuck dampers, valve leakage and outright equipment failure. Data analytics can also improve indoor air quality by developing a maintenance plan which includes inspection, serving, and cleaning, replacement of parts, documentation of procedures and the calibration of components control system.

The article also provides useful information for our research project on ways to obtaining maximum efficiency on HVAC systems. As mentioned above, data analytics helps to improve the efficiency of HVAC systems shown by the research in the article. This has helped me understood that there are many different factors affecting the efficiency of HVAC systems and after reading this article, I have learnt that it is possible to improve the efficiency in many ways. The article also provides relevant information about preventive maintenance for HVAC systems which is a specific focus for our research project.

  1. Dear Bryan,

I really enjoyed reading your writing, as it is very informative, however I do find it too dense for non-engineering readers. However, in overall, as an engineering student, I find this well-written and well-explained. Keep it up with your writing!

    Cheers,
